Solid Switchgear has fixed, bolted connections for all internal components. Breakers, busbars, and cables are permanently mounted, offering high short-circuit withstand capacity and compact design. Maintenance requires total shutdown and manual disassembly.

Drawer switchgear (draw-out type) uses removable chassis with plug-in contacts. Circuit breakers slide in/out via racking mechanisms, enabling safe isolation and quick replacement without de-energizing the entire panel. Drawers have test, disconnect, and service positions.

Key contrasts: solid type is cheaper, smaller, and more reliable in harsh environments, but less flexible. Drawer type costs more, needs larger floor space, but excels in operational continuity, fast fault recovery, and ease of upgrades. Drawer gear is preferred for critical loads where downtime is expensive; solid suits stable, low-maintenance applications. Both comply with IEC 61439.
